Serious Side Effects of Ortho Evra

Ortho Evra's side effects have led to the patch maker issuing a health warning and a large number of lawsuits. Besides the more common side effects, such as headache, application site reaction, nausea, upper respiratory infection, menstrual cramps, and abdominal pain, Ortho Evra has been linked to a number of severe conditions which could result in death, including:

The severity of Ortho Evra's side effects first came to light in April 2004 when an 18-year-old New York fashion student died while using the patch. Her autopsy revealed that a blood clot had traveled to her lung. In addition to Johnson & Johnson's own admissions about the drug's side effects, at least a dozen women using the patch have suffered fatal strokes, heart attacks or blood clots.
