Bruising and Scarring Facts

Ortho Evra Users Report Bruising and Scarring

Among the side effects associated with the Ortho Evra birth control patch, bruising or scarring have been reported by some patients around the site on their skin where the patch was applied. Some have reported mild skin irritation, while others have reported nasty bruises and scars.

The Ortho Evra patch is plastic and contains the hormones estrogen and progestin. The patch is supposed to release 20 micrograms of estrogen and 150 micrograms of progestin into the blood stream every 24 hours, but these amounts may fluctuate significantly, resulting in a much higher dosage of the active ingredients being administered in a given time period. These hormones prevent ovulation, however, they also may cause other complications such as blood clots.

While skin irritation, bruising and scarring are relatively minor problems, there are many serious side effects associated with Ortho Evra, including blood clot, DVT, pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack and death. Contact your doctor immediately if you have experienced symptoms of any of the above listed side effects.
